Regulation of Adoption Expenses
Birth Parent Expenses Allowed
Statute: § 16-1515- A parent who revokes a consent to adoption may be required to pay back any expenses paid by adoptive parent, including medical and living expenses, legal fees, and all other resonable costs.
- The court shall determine the amount of the reimbursement.
Birth Parent Expenses Not Allowed
Statute: § 18-1511
- Living expenses are not to extend beyond 6 weeks after the birth.
- Financial assistance to the birth parent shall not exceed $2,000, without permission of the court.
Allowable Payments for Arranging Adoption
Statute:

Statute: § 18-1511
- It is a felony to sell or barter a child for adoption or other purposes.
Allowable Fees Charged by Department/Agency
Statute: § 16-1506
- The department or agency may require petitioner to pay all or any part of the cost of the investigation.
Accounting of Expenses Required by Court
Statute:
- Judges, in their discretion, may order an accounting.
